Move your Cursor editor off the Free plan with a USDT-funded virtual card

Ran out of Free usage in the middle of a refactor, and your bank card keeps bouncing off the checkout? Fund a ScarabPay virtual card with USDT, finish the upgrade in your browser and get back to coding.

How Cursor bills you after the upgrade

A paid Cursor plan is more than one fixed charge. Knowing which part is included and which part is metered tells you how much balance to keep on the card.

01

Weekly included usage

Every paid plan comes with a usage pool for Cursor models that resets weekly and is shared with Grok; higher tiers simply carry a larger pool.

02

Prepaid credit and a spending cap

Third-party models are billed at API list price from prepaid credit. Once your monthly additional usage limit is reached, paid extra usage stops until you raise it or a new period begins.

03

Per-seat billing for teams

On Teams every active paid seat is charged at its tier, new members are prorated, and only admins can change the team's extra-usage limit and auto top-up.

Why your card gets declined on Cursor

Cursor plans are sold by a US merchant through a web checkout, so the charge can fail long before your plan changes. Three situations explain most failed upgrades.

Your bank stops the US charge or the 3-D Secure step

Many cards issued outside the US treat a first payment to an American software company as risky, or the confirmation request in the banking app expires while the checkout is waiting.

Pay with a ScarabPay virtual card made for online purchases, keep the checkout tab open and approve any confirmation request right away if one appears.

The card covers the plan but not the extra usage

Besides the plan itself, Cursor can bill additional usage and top-up credits, for example when you use third-party models priced at API rates or when auto top-up is switched on. A card loaded to the exact plan price runs dry on those charges.

Load the plan price plus a margin for credits, set a monthly additional usage limit you are comfortable with, and add USDT before the renewal date.

Payment details don't match the card

A wrong expiry date, CVC or billing address is one of the reasons Cursor itself lists for declined payments, and an outdated default card left in billing can be charged instead of the new one.

Copy the card details from your ScarabPay account exactly, enter the matching billing address and make the new card the default payment method.

How to pay for Cursor step by step

  1. 1

    Open a ScarabPay account

Register on the website or in the Android app and complete the identity check so you can issue cards.

  2. 2

    Deposit USDT

Transfer USDT from your exchange or wallet to your ScarabPay balance; it appears once the network confirms the transfer.

  3. 3

Create a reloadable card for Cursor

Issue a Virtual card and move enough balance onto it for the plan plus any credits or seats you expect to buy.

  4. 4

    Start the upgrade from Cursor

Click Upgrade in the editor or open cursor.com/pricing. New subscribers continue to The X Subscription checkout; holders of an older plan use cursor.com/dashboard/billing → Adjust plan.

  5. 5

    Enter the card and confirm

Pick Plus, Premium, Super or Ultra (or Teams for a company), type the card details into the web payment form and confirm the charge if your card asks for it.

  6. 6

    Cap extra spending and code

At grok.com/dashboard/billing set a Monthly additional usage limit under Additional usage credits, then sign in to the editor with the same account so it picks up the new plan.

Virtual

Cursor renews the plan on the same card every period, team seats added mid-cycle bring a prorated charge, and top-up credits can be billed between renewals. A reloadable virtual card handles all of it: it stays saved in billing and you refill it with USDT whenever the balance gets low.

Not for subscriptions

Lite

A Lite card is used up after one payment. It might pass the first Cursor checkout, but the next renewal, any prorated seat and every credit top-up would be declined, so it does not suit a developer subscription.

Tips so your payment goes through

  • If a verification window opens during checkout, finish it in the same tab; refreshing the page can start a second payment attempt and make the charge look suspicious.
  • Switch on auto top-up only if the card always carries spare balance; otherwise buy credits by hand so a top-up never lands on an empty card.
  • Download the receipt from the Invoices tab after paying: it is the fastest proof for support if the payment went through but the editor still shows the Free plan.

Frequently asked questions

Which Cursor plan should a developer leaving Free choose?

Plus runs Cursor's own models at fixed settings, while Premium and higher add Auto, Cloud Agents, Bugbot and third-party models paid from prepaid credit. Compare the tiers on cursor.com/pricing; the price for your country is shown at checkout.

I still have an older Pro plan. Where do I change the card?

Legacy subscriptions billed on cursor.com stay there: open cursor.com/dashboard/billing and click Manage in Stripe to replace the card. Moving to The X Subscription is optional, and Cursor says the switch cannot be undone.

Can a team admin pay for Teams seats with a ScarabPay card?

Yes, the admin adds it as the team's payment method like any other card. Teams is billed per active paid seat and members added mid-cycle create a prorated charge, so keep extra balance whenever the team grows.

Will Cursor charge me more than the plan price?

Only for usage beyond what the plan includes, such as additional usage credits or third-party models billed at API price. A monthly additional usage limit keeps those charges under a ceiling you choose.

What if my plan was bought through the App Store or Google Play?

Then Apple or Google bills it and the card is managed in that store account, not in Cursor. To pay with your ScarabPay card on the web instead, let the store subscription end and subscribe again on the website.
