Want to send USDT to a Nigerian bank account? You can't deposit crypto straight into a bank, because Nigerian banks only hold naira. What you can do is convert the USDT to naira and have it paid into the recipient's account in one transfer. The person in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt receives normal naira in their bank, with nothing to do on their side.

This guide shows how that works with ScarabPay, what details you need from the recipient, what it costs, and how to avoid the mistakes that cause delays. It also compares this route with selling USDT on a P2P market, which is what most people try first.

Can you send USDT directly to a Nigerian bank account?

Not directly. A bank account number is not a crypto address, and banks don't accept stablecoins. Every route from USDT to a Nigerian bank has the same two parts: someone converts your USDT into naira, and then the naira is paid out by bank transfer.

The difference between the options is who does the conversion and how much control you have over it:

  • P2P trading: you sell USDT to another person on an exchange's P2P market, and they pay naira into the account you give them.
  • A transfer service: you send USDT to the service, pick the bank and account number, and the service pays out the naira for you. This is how sending money to Nigeria with ScarabPay works.

The second option is simpler if you're sending to family or paying someone, because you never deal with a stranger and you see the exact naira amount before you confirm.

What you need before you start

  • USDT in a crypto wallet or on an exchange.
  • A ScarabPay account. Sign-up is free. You may be asked for a one-time identity check before your first international transfer.
  • The recipient's bank name. Account numbers are only unique within a bank, so the bank has to be right.
  • The 10-digit account number. All Nigerian banks use the same 10-digit NUBAN format.
  • The account name, written the way it appears at the bank.

You don't need the recipient's BVN, and they don't need a crypto wallet or an app.

How to send USDT to a Nigerian bank account, step by step

Step 1: Add USDT to your balance

In ScarabPay, open Deposit and choose USDT. Pick the network you'll send on, then copy the deposit address or scan the QR code. Send the USDT from your wallet or exchange to that address. Once the network confirms it, the amount appears in your balance and you get an email. Our help article on adding funds with crypto covers deposit fees and minimums.

Watch out: send only USDT, and only on the network you selected on the Deposit page. Sending on a different network can mean losing the funds.

Step 2: Enter the recipient's bank details

Go to Send money, choose Nigeria and the Bank transfer method. Select the recipient's bank from the list, enter the 10-digit account number and the account name. After the first transfer the recipient is saved, so next time you can pick them with one tap.

Step 3: Check the amount and confirm

Enter how much you want to send in US dollars. Before you confirm, you see the exchange rate, the fee and exactly how many naira will arrive. Confirm with your withdrawal PIN (and your Google code if two-step verification is on), then follow the transfer status in the app until it's paid out. Every transfer has a receipt you can share with the recipient.

Fees, exchange rate and limits

The fee is added on top of the amount you send, so the recipient gets the full naira value of the amount you enter. Here is what it looks like:

DetailBank transfer to Nigeria
Fee0.5% of the amount (minimum $0.50)
Amount per transfer$5 to $1,000
Paid out inNigerian naira (NGN)
Example: sending $100About ₦136,500 to the recipient, $100.50 from your balance (rate on 1 November 2026)
Arrival timeShown before you confirm

The naira rate moves often. The calculator on the Nigeria transfer page shows the current rate, and the final rate is locked when you confirm, so the amount you saw is the amount that's sent.

Tip: if you're sending a larger sum, split it into transfers within the per-transfer limit, and check the rate right before each one.

ScarabPay vs selling USDT on P2P

P2P markets work, and plenty of people use them. But when the goal is simply "get naira into this bank account", the two routes feel quite different:

ScarabPay transferP2P trade
Who pays the nairaScarabPay pays out to the bank you chooseAn individual trader pays from their own account
PriceRate and 0.5% fee shown before you confirmDepends on the offer you pick; spreads vary

If you trade often and like to hunt for the best price, P2P may suit you. If you're supporting family, paying a supplier or sending a regular amount home, a direct transfer saves time and removes the back-and-forth.

Tips to avoid delays and failed transfers

  1. Ask the recipient to copy the account number from their bank app instead of typing it from memory.
  2. Double-check the bank in the list. The same 10-digit number can exist at two different banks.
  3. Write the account name as the bank shows it, not a nickname.
  4. Make sure your USDT deposit has arrived in your balance before you start the transfer.
  5. Check the naira amount on the confirmation screen before you enter your PIN.

Good to know: once a transfer is confirmed, the details can't be edited. If something looks wrong, stop at the confirmation screen and go back.

Is it safe?

Each transfer has to be confirmed with your own withdrawal PIN, and you can add Google two-step verification for an extra layer. The rate is locked at confirmation, and you can follow the status of every transfer until it's paid out. On the recipient's side, the money arrives as an ordinary bank credit in naira, the same as any local transfer.

As with any payment, only send money to people you know and trust. No genuine seller, employer or investment will ask you to "unlock" a payment by sending crypto first.

The bottom line

You can't send USDT straight into a Nigerian bank account, but you can turn it into naira and have it paid into any Nigerian bank in one step. Add USDT to your balance, enter the bank and the 10-digit account number, check the naira amount and confirm. Start a transfer to Nigeria, or see the other countries you can send money to with USDT.
