Closing a card and getting your balance back

The ScarabPay team · Updated 15 October 2026

You can close any card you no longer need. Closing is permanent and can't be undone.

  1. In Virtual Cards, open the card.
  2. Choose to close the card and confirm.

What happens to the balance?

  • The remaining card balance goes back to your wallet after the closing fee.
  • If the remaining balance is below the minimum refund amount, it isn't returned — so spend small balances before closing.
  • We email you confirming the closure and any amount refunded.

When is a card closed automatically?

  • When it reaches the third decline strike.
  • If a fee leaves the balance negative.
  • If the card provider closes it for security or regulatory reasons.

After closing, you can issue a new card with the usual issuing fee. Fees and limits are in the card fee policy.
